1. South Africa Reports 8 HPAI H5N1 Outbreaks in Wild Birds
On September 8, South Africa notified 8 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in wild birds in the Western Cape Province. A total of 435 wild and backyard poultry were infected, resulting in 335 deaths and 100 culled.
2. United States Reports 2 HPAI H5N1 Outbreaks in Wild Birds and 1 in Poultry
On September 8 and 12, the United States reported 2 HPAI H5N1 outbreaks in wild birds and 1 in domestic poultry across three locations, including Iowa. The outbreaks affected 23 wild and backyard birds, causing 22 deaths in backyard poultry and the culling of 55,000 domestic birds.
3. Norway Reports 1 HPAI H5N1 Outbreak in Poultry and 1 in Wild Birds
On September 8 and 11, Norway reported one HPAI H5N1 outbreak in poultry and one in wild birds in Nordland County. A total of 500 domestic birds and one wild bird were infected and died.
4. Germany Reports 2 HPAI H5N1 Outbreaks in Wild Birds
On September 8, Germany reported two HPAI H5N1 outbreaks in wild birds in two locations, including Schleswig-Holstein. Two wild birds were infected and died.
5. Spain Reports 2 HPAI H5N1 Outbreaks in Poultry
On September 10, Spain reported two HPAI H5N1 outbreaks in poultry in two regions, including Andalusia. A total of 9,200 birds were infected, resulting in 8,900 deaths and 37,000 culled.

6. Armenia Reports One Rabies Outbreak
On September 10, Armenia reported one case of rabies in the Tavush region, resulting in the infection and death of one domestic cat.
